Hi Gang,
Just wanted to jump into your email boxes for a quick minute
to keep you updated on things happening in the Ohio Section..
Summer is here!! Yes,
meteorologically it’s summer.. Well, at
least that is what a certain weather guy is saying on the evening news anyway.
Personally, with the temperature at just 50 degrees.. I’d say we have a little
longer to wait before we can say summer is here.
All kidding aside, June 1st is officially the
start to Hurricane season. Now I realize that we live in more of the central
part of the country, pretty much immune to such events, but it is the peak
season for tornadoes around here. And, YES, we’ve had our fair share of those
around here! Are you prepared if a tornado comes? Do you have a “Go Box” ? Do you have a your hand-held all charged up?
These are things to think about now, now during the event. It’s too late then.
Have you checked your generator? Do you have fuel for it? Now about this time I’m
sure you’re saying “what’s he leading up to..”
Well, here it is.. FIELD DAY.. You know that event we have every year on
the 4th weekend of June where you go and stuff your face with absolutely
great food and fellowship and yes, competition.
I’ve placed a “Field Day Locator” link on the left side of
the Ohio Section website so that you can easily plug-in where you would like to
go play Field Day at. For those of you organizing your Field Day event, please
register your Field Day so that you can be easily found among all the rest.. It’s
easy, just click on the Field Day Locator link. There’s a link located on the
right side of the page that will allow you to register your Field Day.. The Section
Cabinet will be out and about, like it was last year. I will be traveling
around trying to hit as many of the Field Day Sites as I can, and that’s
another good reason to make sure that your Field Day Site is registered in the
Locator.. You don’t want me wandering all around the country-side looking for
your site, do you??
Did you know that the Ohio Section is on Facebook.. We are,
you can locate us at #ARRL
Ohio Section or #Ohio
Section. Also.. Just recently the Ohio Section joined 100 million plus of
you on Twitter. Our “handle” on Twitter is: @arrlohio Come join us there as well.. You’ll find that
all of these sites are now updated regularly..
Lastly.. Get your pencils or pens out and mark your
calendars for August 1st at the Aladdin Shrine Hall for the Great
Lakes Division Convention and Columbus Hamfest. There will be a number of great
forums and this year, the winner of the Ohio Section Newsletter Contest won’t
be announced until just before the announcement of the winner of the Great
Lakes Division Newsletter Contest. The judges of both contests are all lined up
and ready to go. The scheduling is tight, but I have been told that they are
all up for this, so there’s just a few weeks left to get your newsletters in
before the judging begins! Don’t be left out.
That’s going to do it from here. Good Luck to all the
entered newsletters. Hope yours is the winner!!
73,
Scott, N8SY
